Sean was born and spent his formative years in Guyana, South America. His family immigrated to the United States in the late 1970’s and settled in Lexington, KY where he attended junior high, high school and college.

During summer breaks while in college he ran his own business, marketing books published by the Southwestern Company. His last summer marketing these books, Sean ran an organization of 40+ students from various colleges in the southeast. After graduating from the University of Kentucky, he joined Northwestern Mutual as a financial rep in 1990 and relocated to Atlanta in 1995. At Northwestern, Sean was active on two national boards, the Financial Representatives Association and the Association of Advanced Professional Studies. In 2007 Sean started working with Merrill Lynch providing wealth management strategies to clients as a financial advisor.

In 2010, Sean created his own independent firm powered by LPL Financial, DeHaan Wealth Management, which gave him the freedom to provide unbiased and objective product recommendations. 


Sean has always been active in the community. Some of his past community involvement include volunteering with the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Soccer in the streets, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America, CobbFC, Woodruff Arts Center and the United Way. He has played competitive soccer with various teams throughout his life. He has also played soccer internationally in Germany, Malta and the US Virgin Islands.

Sean and his wife Sonya are residents of Smyrna. They have two children Olivia and Winston. He has always been active in various sports and enjoys sharing those activities with his children.
